During my junior year of high school, I participated in Technovation, a program that aims to expose women to computer science. Our team prototyped a mobile app that enabled users to look for events based upon their method of transportation and relative distance from a location. We developed a complete business plan--detailing target segments, marketing strategies, profit analysis, etc.--and presented our final product to a panel of judges.
The goal of the application, Let's Do Something, was to encourage and increase community involvement. Users had a simple, easy to use method of locating activities they could actually get to, and local businesses and schools could advertise their smaller events.
This experience is what fueled my desire to pursue two separate degrees in computer science and business. The ability to code, paired with a strong understanding of marketing is a synergistic combination. Not only can we make a phenomenal products, but we can effectively launch them into the market.
I look forward to working in web/mobile app development, where I can apply my love of technology to the people-oriented segment of the industry. I cannot wait to help create something that will leave a mark on this world.
